M-Pesa Operator Shot During Robbery In Migori

A 42-year-old M-Pesa operator was shot and injured after two armed robbers raided his shop at Moss Market in Nyarongi Sub-location, Otachi Location, Suna East, Migori County.

The incident occurred at around 8.30pm on Thursday, August 20, 2026, as the victim was closing his business.

According to the police the two attackers were armed with a firearm believed to be a pistol. They allegedly robbed the victim of Sh200,000 from his M-Pesa shop before shooting him in the left thigh, causing heavy bleeding.

The assailants also raided an adjacent shop and stole Sh30,000.

Members of the public who heard gunshots responded to the scene, but the attackers escaped into the darkness within the market.

The man sustained a gunshot wound to the left thigh, an injury to the head and a bruise on his neck. He was rushed to Oasis Hospital in Migori town, where he was admitted in stable condition.

Police visited the victim at the hospital before proceeding to the scene.

Police said they recovered one spent bullet head suspected to have been fired from a revolver.

Investigations and efforts to trace the two suspects are ongoing.

Such robberies have been on the rise in the area amid calls for action to be taken to tame the trend.

A team of detectives is combing the area for further action, police said.

And police in Nakuru County are investigating a shooting incident reported near a farm house at Mathenge Farm in Subukia Sub-County.

The incident was reported on Thursday, August 20, 2026, by an employee at the farm.

The employee said he was alerted by a neighbour at around 5.30pm that gunshots had been heard near the farm house.

The neighbour reportedly said the people involved in the shooting were travelling in a red double-cabin pickup, which later drove off towards Kahiga.

The employee subsequently joined other farm employees and visited the scene, where they recovered three spent bullet cartridges.

The cartridges, identified as calibre 7.62×39mm, were handed over to police and booked as exhibits.

Police have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify those involved.
