A 90-year-old man was killed and robbed of Sh2000 he had withdrawn from a bank in Kibwezi, Makueni county.
Police said the elderly man was accosted by the assailants after he had left a bank in the Metava area where he had gone to withdraw the money he received through the Injua Jamii cash transfer programme on Tuesday afternoon.
The attackers slit the man’s throat and then later disappeared with the money.
The body has been moved to the Kambu hospital mortuary.
No arrest has been made so far.
The Inua Jamii programme under the Ministry of Labour targets orphans and vulnerable children, older persons and persons with severe disabilities.
Under the Inua Jamii programme, the beneficiaries are eligible for a Sh2000 monthly stipend.
Police said a hunt for the attackers is ongoing.
