Man Dies After Assault During Burial Preparations In Nyamira Village


Police are investigating an incident where a 60-year-old man died after allegedly being assaulted during burial preparations in Kiambere area, Nyamira County.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Ezra Morara Anyona, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a local hospital on April 17.

The incident was reported by a family member, who stated that the deceased was attacked by unknown individuals on April 14, 2026, during preparations for the burial of the late Sarah Kerubo at Kianginda Village.

He was rushed to the hospital the following day, where he remained under treatment until he died at around noon on April 17.

The family later moved the body to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary without a police report but were turned back, prompting them to report the matter at Bosamaro Police Post.

The body is currently lying at the Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the incident and are pursuing leads to identify those responsible for the fatal assault.

Meanwhile, police in Nyamonye, Siaya County are investigating the murder of a 48-year-old man whose body was found lying on the roadside.

Police said the body of Charles Oloo was found on the roadside with a deep cut on the neck on Saturday April 18.

His bicycle was also found next to the body and police believe he was attacked as he rode to his home after a funeral night vigil in the area.

The motive of the murder was not immediately known and the body was moved to the mortuary pending investigations.

Elsewhere in Mukuyu, Muranga County, a 43-year-old man was found murdered and his body abandoned on the roadside.

He was identified as Antony Mwangi Thiongo.

Police said the body did not have any physical injuries but had some blood oozing from the nose when it was found on Saturday.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy to establish how he died.
