Man Dies After Assault In Makueni Village

Police in Makueni County are investigating a murder case after a man who had allegedly been assaulted by a known suspect succumbed to his injuries while being transferred for specialised treatment.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Sammy Philip Mutua, a 35-year-old man.

Police said Mutua had initially been admitted at Makindu Hospital following the assault and was later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital on May 27, 2026, for further treatment.

However, he died upon arrival at the Nairobi-based referral hospital due to the injuries he had sustained.

The body was moved to Nairobi City Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

Authorities said the suspect, who is known to investigators, is still at large and efforts to trace and arrest him are ongoing.

Elsewhere, police in Kyuso Sub-County, Kitui County, are investigating an incident in which the body of an unidentified man was discovered along a road inside Kora National Park.

The report was made on Wednesday afternoon by an officer attached to the Kenya Wildlife Service patrol base at Barikini, who said the body was found at around 1pm during a foot patrol along the Boka–Mandongoi road.

According to the report, the deceased was an unknown African male adult whose body had already started decomposing, making identification difficult.

And police in Gatanga Sub-County, Murang’a County, are investigating a drowning incident after the body of a young girl was found floating in River Kiama near Kiria-ini market.

According to the police, a passer-by who was heading to the market at around 10:30am spotted the body near the river bank and alerted police.

Police said they established that the body belonged to an African female child estimated to be between three and five years old.

Police said the body had no visible physical injuries, although it had already started decomposing by the time it was recovered from the water.

The body was moved to Kirwara Funeral Home awaiting postmortem examination and identification. Investigators said an inquest file will be opened as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death continue.
