Businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu, also known as ‘Mathe wa Ngara’ in local circles, has been granted freedom on a Sh.1 million cash bail in the current drug trafficking case against her.
The Nairobi Court, in its decision on Wednesday, mandated Kigunzu to hand over her passport to the court.

‘Mathe Wa Ngara’ had been held in custody since her arrest on August 21 in connection with a drug-related incident in Nairobi’s Ngara area.
The authorities seized significant amounts of marijuana and Sh.13.4 million in cash during the operation.
Following her arrest, Kigunzu’s initial bail request was denied two weeks later on the grounds of being a flight risk due to her alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
She had submitted the bail application, citing an underlying medical condition that required continuous monitoring and medication. She further argued that denying her bail would worsen her condition.
However, Magistrate Njeri Thuku decided that granting her bail was not in the best interests of justice.
