Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi has emphasized the significance of tech diplomacy in augmenting diplomatic engagement, networking, and global presence, alongside nurturing cultural exchanges.
Addressing a public gathering in Nairobi, Mudavadi underscored the transformative potential of tech diplomacy in tackling various global issues.
He stated, “Tech diplomacy offers a novel way to negotiate, cooperate, and address pressing global challenges of our time such as climate change, industrialization, digital divide, cybersecurity, misinformation and disinformation, and rapidly advancing information space.”

Moreover, Mudavadi highlighted Kenya’s dedication to tech diplomacy through the appointment of a Special Envoy for Technology, signaling the country’s commitment to leveraging technology for diplomatic endeavors.
In addition to tech diplomacy, Mudavadi discussed Kenya’s utilization of soft diplomacy tools, including cultural exchanges, capacity building, peace initiatives, and sports.
He emphasized the role of athletes in promoting Kenya globally, stating, “Our sports people, especially athletes, continue to raise our flag and image globally. Kenya will also promote sports tourism by hosting and supporting international sporting events.”
Furthermore, Mudavadi outlined government initiatives to bolster the creative arts sector, positioning Kenya as a hub for film production and facilitating the internationalization of local content.
He expressed optimism about the impact on the creative economy, asserting, “This will go a long way to develop the creative economy and further support Kenya’s projection of its soft power diplomacy.”
Discussing future plans, Mudavadi mentioned the establishment of a pool of mediation veterans and special envoys focusing on peace, technology, and the blue economy.
These endeavors, he stressed, are crucial to Kenya’s strategy of enhancing its global image to attract investment, promote tourism, and strengthen diplomatic ties.
