Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has issued a stark warning to Generation Z youths regarding the implications of supporting a recent High Court ruling that deemed the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) Act of 2015 unconstitutional.
In a statement posted on his Instagram account on September 24, 2024, Salasya expressed his intention to align himself with the political elite should Gen Z continue to advocate for the termination of NG-CDF activities.
The MP emphasized the importance of the fund in supporting community development and criticized those who seek its removal from parliamentary oversight.
“The people of Mumias East have rejected ignorance, and as their leader, I stand firm in that position.
While some educated individuals may not see the benefits of NG-CDF, the reality is that it has been instrumental in funding essential projects like school toilets and renovations,” he stated.
Salasya warned that if Gen Z does not reconsider its stance against the NG-CDF, he may withdraw his support and join forces with other political figures to govern in a way that aligns with their desires.
“If Gen Z intends to detach from grassroots initiatives, I will reciprocate by withdrawing my support and uniting with political leaders who wish to govern them effectively,” he said.
His remarks come on the heels of protests in Mumias East, where residents voiced their opposition to the court’s ruling, underscoring the critical role the NG-CDF has played in community development.
Locals argue that the fund has significantly benefited schools and businesses in the region, fostering growth and progress.
Many residents expressed concern over the potential negative impact of the court’s decision on ongoing development projects.
They fear that the withdrawal of NG-CDF funding could stall vital initiatives that have been crucial for the community’s advancement.
As the debate continues, the fate of the NG-CDF hangs in the balance, with strong sentiments from both supporters and detractors of the ruling.
