The Nairobi Southern Bypass will be closed this weekend to facilitate the 20th edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon.
The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) issued a notice outlining the road closure, which will extend from the Ole Sereni Interchange to Kikuyu Town.
The closure is scheduled to take effect from midnight on Saturday and will continue until 2 pm the following day.
During this period, the affected stretch of the Southern Bypass will remain inaccessible to motorists.
“Motorists are adviced to use Mombasa Road (A8) from Ole Sereni Interchange, through Uhuru Highway and vice versa as the alternative route,” the notice read.
To ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic during the event, all road users are encouraged to adhere to traffic signs and follow the guidance provided by traffic marshals and law enforcement officers on duty.
The 2023 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon will incorporate an environmental initiative.
In an effort to combat single-use plastics, the marathon organizers are planning to plant 30,000 trees.
The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon has a rich history and is a highly anticipated event for both participants and spectators.
