National Assembly Speaker Confirms Impeachment Motion Against Deputy President Gachagua

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has confirmed the receipt of a motion seeking to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The motion, dated September 27, was officially received by Wetang’ula on the same day.

In assessing the motion’s admissibility, Wetang’ula stated that it meets the requirements outlined in Article 145 (1) and 150 (1)(b) of the Constitution, as well as Standing Order 64 (1).

He noted, “I have also satisfied myself that the number of members who have appended their signatures in support of the special motion exceeds the minimum threshold of 117 members in this House.”

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, who is set to be the mover of the motion, indicated that he would base Gachagua’s ouster on alleged violations of Articles 145 and 150 of the Kenyan Constitution.

“The framers of our constitution intended for every provision to be tested,” he remarked.

Mwengi added, “This afternoon, as part of my civic duty and my role as an MP, I will give notice of motion for the removal of the Deputy President from office through impeachment.”

He further promised that the evidence to be presented would be shocking, stating, “Watch this space.”
