Nearly 20 Army Officers Injured In Truck Accident Near Gatithi In Kirinyaga County


Nearly 20 army officers were seriously injured when a truck they were traveling in lost control near Gatithi, close to Kibongoti trading center, along the Sagana-Karatina road in Kirinyaga County.

According to Moses Koskei, Kirinyaga West sub-county police commander, the truck was en route to Nairobi from Karatina when the accident occurred.

“Upon receiving the report, I immediately dispatched traffic officers from Sagana police station to the scene.

 The injured soldiers have been taken to Naji Private Hospital, Kerugoya Hospital, and Jamii Karatina Hospital,” Koskei stated.

Eyewitness David Kariuki recounted that he was on his way to Kibingoti trading center to purchase medication when the army truck lost control after hitting a bump.

Another witness, Justin Ng’ang’a, reported that 12 soldiers were transported to Naji Private Hospital in Kibingoti, while 13 were taken to Karatina Hospital with severe injuries.

“I operate a petrol station nearby and went to the scene right after the accident. I assisted the 12 soldiers who were brought to Naji Private Hospital,” Ng’ang’a said.

Local residents, although not officially confirmed, claimed the truck was carrying 33 officers at the time of the accident.

Commander Koskei indicated that police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash.

The accident highlights the critical need for improved road safety measures and vehicle maintenance to prevent such tragic events in the future.
