The members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Nyamira County are considering a move to remove Governor Amos Nyaribo from office.
A total of 28 out of the 34 MCAs have given their approval for this action.
According to Duke Masira, the MCA for Township ward and the deputy leader of the majority in the Assembly, they have two major reasons for wanting Nyaribo to step down or face impeachment.
First, there is a concerning issue involving sh. 22 million related to the purchase of drugs.
Secondly, the MCAs believe that Nyaribo has been misusing his power, which has led to a loss of trust in his leadership.
“We want the Senate to establish whether Nyaribo will continue being governor.
He claimed that only boxes were delivered instead of drugs, we want him to be investigated,” said the deputy majority leader.
Masira emphasized their request for the Senate to investigate Nyaribo’s suitability to remain as the governor.
They are particularly concerned about the drugs scandal, where Nyaribo alleged that only boxes were delivered instead of the expected drugs.
This drugs purchase controversy resulted in the governor’s decision to dismiss Timothy Ombati, who held the position of the county’s health minister.
Ombati has taken legal action, claiming that his dismissal was unjust, and he is seeking reinstatement by the governor.
