The county government of Kakamega has confirmed that nine people have been rescued from the Sigalagala gold mine collapse.
At least 12 gold miners were trapped alive Thursday at around 1 am.
One person was confirmed dead by 12:30 pm.
The Director of Communication County Government of Kakamega said the County Disaster Multisectoral team led by CECM for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Dr. Mariam Barasa and her Health Services Counterpart Dr. Benard Wesonga were on site.
The rescue mission for the four people remaining is ongoing.
Police said they had rescued nine people so far.
