One Dead, Murder Suspect Critically Injured After Mob Attack In Kakamega

Police are investigating a murder in Khwisero Sub-county, Kakamega County, that was followed by an apparent mob attack on the suspected killer.

The incident was reported on Sunday morning after the area chief of Kisa West Location alerted police that a body had been found in a field at Umalwe ‘A’ Village.

Police officers visited the scene in Muhaka Sub-location and found the body of Marcus Owino, 50, lying in a grassy field.

Police said the deceased had sustained multiple deep cut wounds on the shoulders, both wrists, elbows, the right side of the head, the right knee and the ankle, indicating a violent attack.

About 10 metres from the scene, officers found a man, lying on the ground with serious injuries allegedly inflicted by members of the public who suspected him of involvement in the killing.

The suspect was rushed to Khwisero Sub-County Level IV Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition under police guard.

The body of the deceased was moved to Yala Level IV Hospital mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

Police said the motive behind the killing has not yet been established, and investigations are ongoing.

They also appealed to members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspects to the authorities.

And police have launched investigations into the death of a 54-year-old man whose body was found near a butchery in Ol Kalou Township, Nyandarua County.

The incident was reported on Sunday afternoon by a local, who told police he had found the lifeless body of his cousin, Josphat Karani Simale, lying on his back near Kirinyaga Butchery in the Joyland area.

Police said the deceased had blood oozing from his mouth and nose, but no visible external injuries were observed on the body.

Crime Scene Investigation officers documented and processed the scene before the body was moved to the J.M. Kariuki Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
