Panic As Aircraft Tyre Bursts On JKIA Runway, Briefly Suspending Operations

Operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) were briefly disrupted on Wednesday evening after an aircraft developed a tyre burst while landing.

Officials said the incident happened when the Boscovik aircraft, registration number 5Y-ZBV, landed at JKIA from the Maasai Mara at about 6pm.

The aircraft’s rear right tyre burst after landing on one of the runways.

There were five passengers and one crew member on board at the time of the incident.

The runway was temporarily closed as airport authorities responded to the incident and replaced the damaged tyre.

The incident caused panic among the passengers on board and other users there.

The aircraft was subsequently moved to one of the aprons there , allowing normal airport operations to resume at about 7:40pm.

No injuries were reported.

Police and relevant airport authorities documented the incident as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tyre failure continue.
