The National Assembly has dismissed a list of alleged cabinet nominees that has been circulating on social media and online platforms.

This list surfaced amid rising within the Kenya Kwanza administration, following removal of Rigathi Gachagua and the of allies of opposition Raila Odinga.

The list claims that Charity Ngilu, Jun Mohamed, Christina Pratt Kenatta, Jeniffer Shamalla, Mutahi Kagwe, Okiya Omtata, Morara Kebaso, and Kanini Kega have been appointed to cabinet positions.

The notice further claimed that the National Assembly was to appoint a commission to vet these nominees before they could officially take office.

However, the National Assembly has rejected this letter, sent to Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Twalib Mbarak, stating it didn’t come through any official channels.

“This list has not come through any official channels within the National Assembly, and we urge the public to disregard it, as no formal communication or announcement has been issued by the Office of the President,” the statement clarified.

The letter purportedly from the Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, requested the EACC to examine each nominee’s background according to public office legal standards.

However, it failed to specify the roles of the eight individuals.

While the letter appeared genuine with the Clerk’s signature and the national emblem, it was missing stamps from both the National Assembly and the EACC, raising questions about its authenticity.

Attempts to contact EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi for confirmation were unsuccessful.

The false letter requested findings by Friday, November 8, 2024, to allow further proceedings.

In response, Parliament urged the public and media to dismiss the list as fake since no official cabinet appointment communication had been received.

Moses Wetangula’s office, responsible for Parliament and Executive communications, emphasized the importance of relying on official announcements for government appointments.

Parliament has reassured the public that any legitimate appointments will be communicated through official channels to prevent speculation and misinformation.
