Controversial preacher Pastor Ezekiel Odero Friday appealed against a decision by the Registrar of Societies to deregister his New Life Church Centre.
Odero through his lawyer Dunstan Omari said no notice was issued to him before the cancelation took place.
He said the move by the Registrar is in bad faith as he has a conference set to commence tomorrow.
The conference dubbed as ‘Meza ya Bwana‘ will run for the next 14 days with over 100,000 people expected to attend on a daily basis.
Omari said “By law that appeal served as a stay for the next 90 days before the Attorney General makes a decision.”
Omari said the church remains open to it’s followers by virtue of the filing of the appeal.
Omari said they have also been trying to access the registration file in a bid to file returns but their efforts have been in vain.
“Numerous letters have been written to the Registrar but it has proven to be a difficult task to get the file,” says Omari.
The Registrar of Societies on Friday deregistered Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s Newlife Prayer Centre.
Through a gazette notice dated August 3, 2023, four other churches have been deregistered.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) of the Societies Act, the Registrar of Societies cancels the registration of the societies specified in the first column of the Schedule, with effect from the respective dates specified in the third column of the schedule,” Registrar of Societies Maria Nyariki said.
Other churches are Goodnews International Ministries which was cancelled on May 19, Helicopter of Christ Church which was deregistered on May 19, 2023.
Theophilus Church was cancelled on May 19, together with Kings Outreach Church.
