A tragic incident occurred on Sunday night at Cheptais Junction in Bungoma County when Fredrick Juma, a police officer from the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) in Bungoma West, was struck and killed by a police vehicle while performing his duties.
According to a police report , Juma had stopped a trailer driven by Ali Abdullahi Bunyori for a routine inspection.
The trailer was traveling from Sirisia to Chwele.
While Juma was questioning the driver, a Toyota Land Cruiser from Sirisia Police Station, driven by Gideon Magut, was heading in the opposite direction.
In an attempt to avoid the stationary trailer, Magut swerved but unfortunately hit Juma.
The impact was severe, causing Juma to be thrown forward, resulting in serious head injuries that led to his immediate death at the scene.
The police report details that officers quickly responded to the scene to secure and document the incident.
The body of the deceased was transported to the Life Care Hospital Morgue, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
Meanwhile, both the trailer and the Toyota Land Cruiser have been impounded at the Chwele Police Station, pending further inspection.
