Police are investigating an incident in which a suspect died while in custody at the Karen Plains Cells, Karen, Nairobi.
The body of Moris Mucheni, 40 was found in the cells long after he had been detained therein.
The cause of the death is yet to be known. He had been detained for stealing.
Police realized he was dead as they conducted a headcount on Sunday evening. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
Officials from Independent Policing Oversight Authority said they will investigate the incident and make recommendations.
Police officers who were on duty were later questioned about the incident.
The suspects who were present were also questioned over the incident as part of the probe.
The agency is mandated by law to investigate such incidents and make recommendations to the Office of Director of Public Prosecution.
