Police in Mombasa are investigating an incident where a police officer allegedly shot his wife three times leading to her death.
Thirty-year-old Emaily Masinza was shot twice on the thighs and stomach on December 6, 2022, and taken to the Coast General Hospital where she was receiving treatment before succumbing to the injuries Friday, December 16 morning.
The family of the deceased and human rights groups is demanding justice over the incident.
They accuse her husband who is a police officer at the Bamburi police station of the incident.
According to the father of the woman, the two have been married for three years, with the relationship rocked by quarrels for some time.
He added there were complaints of assault from the woman before she died.
The incident is said to have happened December 6, at the station lines and for the last 10 days, Masinza had been receiving treatment at the Coast General Hospital where doctors managed to remove two bullets before she succumbed to the injuries.
Topister Juma, a gender officer in Muhuri, said they will push the case further for justice.
The officer accused of the issue was arrested and is expected to be arraigned on Monday, December 19.
Police said the woman talked before she succumbed. Her statements will be used in the case.
