President William Samoei Ruto has officially unveiled a clinker plant valued at Sh45 billion at Sebit limestone mines in Kipkomo Sub County along the Kapenguria-Lodwar Highway.
He noted the inauguration of the clinker plant marks another significant milestone in the ambitious expansion of the industrial blueprint in the Republic.
The President emphasized the potential economic benefits of the plant for West Pokot and the nation, stating, “Residents of West Pokot are now presented with a unique chance to witness an untapped resource that holds great potential for their county.”
He praised the contribution of the Devki Group of Companies, particularly their investments in National Cement and now Cemtech Limited, saying, “I want to congratulate my brother Guru for having confidence in our country.
It takes courage, it takes belief for one to invest Sh150 billion even if it is counted in whatever currency.”
President Ruto highlighted the employment opportunities created by the plant, stating that it directly employs 5,000 individuals and indirectly benefits over 14,000 Kenyans.
He expressed optimism about the economic resurgence of West Pokot, stating, “West Pokot County is on the verge of experiencing an economic resurgence, with increased incomes and various revenue sources associated with the factory, including wages and consumption.”
Furthermore, he emphasized the significant economic benefits of Devki’s investment at a national level, including savings of approximately 500 million dollars in foreign exchange annually.
President Ruto commended Devki’s dedication to Kenya, stating, “This level of dedication and financial contribution exemplifies an immeasurable sense of patriotism towards the Republic of Kenya.”
He emphasized the importance of investment, manufacturing, and industrialization in achieving self-sufficiency and successful exportation of goods, aligning with the country’s goal of expanding the manufacturing sector to reach 20 percent of GDP.
Devki Group of Companies Chairman Dr. Narendra Raval expressed optimism about the project’s transformative impact on West Pokot, stating, “The project would have a transformative impact on the perception of Pokot, the security of its people, and the income levels of the local community.”
As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Dr. Raval revealed that they have implemented feeding programmes for students in schools located near the clinker plant and constructed classrooms.
West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin expressed gratitude to the President for officially opening the clinker plant and assured support for its success.
The President was accompanied by various government officials, including the Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Mining Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, and Investment, Trade, and Industry Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, along with Members of Parliament, Members of County Assembly, investors, and other esteemed guests.
