In a festive prelude to Christmas, President William Ruto’s residence in Sugoi became a bustling hub as hundreds of locals from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Kakamega counties gathered for early holiday giveaways.
Roads leading to Sugoi witnessed a surge of activity as early as 4 am, with multiple lorries unloading Christmas goodies at the president’s home.
Excitement filled the air as long queues formed, eagerly awaiting packets of wheat flour, cooking oil, and rice.
Philip Lagat, a neighbor of the president, expressed his surprise at the overwhelming turnout.
“I was really shocked. People from as far as Chepterwai in Nandi, Kakamega, and Trans Nzoia counties were here very early in the morning.
I think Kenyans are really suffering due to hard economic times,” Lagat observed.
Highlighting the scale of this year’s event, Lagat mentioned that while the president has been organizing similar giveaways in previous years, the sheer number of attendees was unprecedented.
President Ruto addressed the crowd, urging Kenyans to maintain a positive outlook on their nation despite challenges, assuring them that these issues were being addressed.
He acknowledged the economic recovery but encouraged Kenyans to remain optimistic, emphasizing that better days were ahead.
Earlier in the week, President Ruto and First Lady Rachael Ruto, along with Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and local leaders, hosted children from 50 homes in preparation for the upcoming Christmas celebrations at Eldoret State Lodge.
