Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki urged security officers stationed in North Eastern and Upper Coast regions to collaborate closely with local communities to enhance the effectiveness of counterterrorism efforts.
Speaking in Lagdera Constituency during the establishment of Shanta Abaq Sub-County and the appointment of Kennedy Lwanyi as the first deputy county commissioner, Kindiki recognized the advancements made in the fight against terrorism.
He attributed these successes to the implementation of intelligence-driven security operations.
Kindiki emphasized the importance of cooperation between security personnel and local communities, stating, “To defeat terrorism and extremism, our security officers must collaborate with local communities.
We need to involve citizens to track down and eliminate terrorists.
They are our enemies.
There is no enmity between the government and the people or any particular community.
The enemy of the government and the people are terrorists and other criminals.
Criminals have no tribe.”
Acknowledging the sacrifices made by security officers in perilous areas, Kindiki commended their dedication, noting, “We have prioritized intelligence-led security operations to combat terrorism.
I commend the dedication of our security personnel, who operate in challenging and hazardous environments.
Some have paid the ultimate price in the fight against terrorists.”
Kindiki reassured the government’s commitment to providing security officers with the necessary equipment to confront terrorist groups effectively.
He stated, “The government is upgrading security equipment, including personal protective gear, to support our officers in fulfilling their duties and prevailing in the battle against terrorism and violent extremism.”
Additionally, the CS announced the imminent reopening of immigration department offices in Garissa and the resumption of passport issuance, national identity card issuance, and other citizenship document services.
These activities will commence following Ramadhan and will be presided over by President William Ruto.
New measures aimed at streamlining the processing of these crucial security documents will also be unveiled.
