Protest In Eldoret As Victims Of Overseas Jobs Scam Demand Justice

A multitude of Uasin Gishu residents converged in Eldoret town on Monday, united by a shared grievance – a pledge of employment abroad by First Choice Recruitment agency that allegedly turned into a series of false promises.

The resonating cries for justice echoed through the streets as these individuals, who had invested their hopes and resources, found themselves ensnared in an overseas jobs scam.

The heart-wrenching testimonies of defrauded parents painted a distressing picture.

Selly Yego, a mother from Turbo Constituency, recounted her unfortunate tale of investing in a future for her offspring, only to witness her hard-earned funds vanish into thin air.

The agony of dashed hopes and financial loss cast a shadow over her family.

Senate petitioner Kimutai Kirui, representing the Centre Against Torture, levelled accusations at certain government officials, alleging complicity in enabling the agency’s unlawful operations.

It is claimed that the agency not only dangled the illusion of overseas employment but also resorted to intimidation tactics, further exacerbating the victims’ anguish.

Disturbingly, the allegations also extend to the issuance of counterfeit cheques to these unsuspecting victims.

The victims’ plight is now amplified by the revelation of such fraudulent activities, eroding their faith in both the agency and the systems meant to safeguard their interests.

Judy Jepchirchir, the director of the embattled agency, countered these allegations while appearing before the Senate Labour and Social Welfare Committee.

She argued that the agency had dispatched a substantial number of Kenyan citizens to foreign companies over a span of four years, seemingly disputing the claims of defrauded youths.

The demonstration’s resounding message is clear: These victims demand justice and accountability for promises unfulfilled, futures jeopardized, and resources squandered.

As the echoes of their protest reverberate, it serves as a stark reminder that while dreams were exploited, resilience shall now become the driving force for change.
