PS Bitok Announces Kenyans Will Get New IDs Within 10 Days Of Applying

Starting next month, Kenyans applying for new Identification cards will receive their IDs within just ten days.

This significant reduction in processing time comes as a result of recent upgrades, including the installation of live capture technology at all Huduma Centers and National Registration Bureau (NRB) offices across the country.

Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok explained that the addition of two high-capacity printers at the NRB will accelerate the issuance process.

Previously, it took at least 21 days to receive an ID, but now it will take no longer than ten working days from the date of application.

“We aim to make acquiring IDs faster and more convenient for all Kenyans,” Bitok stated.

During the World ID Day celebrations in Katoloni, Machakos County, Bitok highlighted that the county leads with around 32,000 eligible youth waiting to register for their IDs.

He also shared that Machakos has a birth registration rate of 78 percent and a death registration rate of 43 percent.

The Machakos event featured on-the-spot registration services for IDs, birth certificates, and certificates of good conduct, among other documents.

The choice of Machakos for this year’s celebrations was due to its high number of eligible ID registrants.

Additionally, Bitok mentioned that the government is contemplating the establishment of a new Immigration office in Machakos to improve access to passports and other travel documents.

Machakos MP Caleb Mule also called on the government to open more NRB and Civil Registration Services (CRS) offices to reduce the travel burden on residents seeking these services.
