Raila Among Honoured As National Heroes And Heroines At Mashujaa Day Celebrations In Kitui


 

Dozens of people were on October 20, 2025, honoured for their outstanding contributions to the nation during the Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County.

The event, presided over by President William Ruto, recognised more than 160 individuals whose work and sacrifices have shaped Kenya’s history, development, and identity.

Among those honored included former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who died on October 15, 2025.

He got a lifetime achievement and was recognised as a national hero for his lifelong struggle for democracy, reform, and national unity.

Also recognised was Mwai Kibaki (Posthumous) – Honoured for his leadership in economic transformation and national stability.

Daniel Toroitich arap Moi (Posthumous) – Recognised for fostering peace and regional diplomacy.

Prof. Wangari Maathai (Posthumous) – Celebrated for her global leadership in environmental conservation and women’s empowerment.

Jomo Kenyatta (Posthumous) – Honoured as Kenya’s founding father for leading the country to independence.

The honours highlight Kenyans who have made remarkable contributions to freedom, entrepreneurship, culture, sports, human rights, environmental conservation, and peace.
