The Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Edwin Sifuna, dismissed concerns that party leader Raila Odinga would retire from Kenyan politics following his announcement of a bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position.
Sifuna emphasized that Odinga’s political journey is far from over, despite his AU aspirations, stating, “Baba will remain Baba, and you will continue seeing him giving his opinion on key national issues.”

Highlighting Odinga’s previous roles at the AU, including his stint as the High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa after the 2017 General Election, Sifuna stressed that there would be no significant changes in ODM or national politics due to Odinga’s bid.
Addressing critics who suggest Odinga’s retirement, Sifuna asserted that they fear his irreplaceable presence in Kenyan politics.
He assured that Odinga’s influence would persist both within the party leadership and on crucial national matters.
Sifuna emphasized, “Raila is significant in our Kenyan politics, and there are those who would want to see him exit the political stage because they are afraid and they know his importance.”
Odinga, accompanied by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, expressed his readiness to serve Africa, stating, “Should the leadership of Africa want my services, I am ready… I offer myself to be of service to this continent.”
