Senate Speaker Kingi Calls Special Sitting For Impeachment Of Isiolo Governor Guyo Despite Court Stopping Process


The Senate Speaker Amason Kingi gazetted Monday June 30, 2025 as the day for a special sitting to, among others hear impeachment charges against Isiolo governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan Guyo.

This is despite the fact that a court had stopped and termed as null and void the process to impeach Guyo.

Kingi said he was in receipt of a letter from the Speaker of the County Assembly of Isiolo, dated June 26, 2025 and received in the Office of the Speaker of the Senate on the June 27, 2025, by which the Speaker of the County Assembly of Isiolo informed the Speaker of the Senate of the approval of a Motion for the removal from office by impeachment of Abdi Ibrahim Hassan, the Governor of Isiolo County.

The sitting shall be held in the Senate Chamber, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, commencing at 10.00 a.m.

The business to be transacted at the sitting shall be the consideration of the Report of the Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue Bill, 2025 (National Assembly Bills No. 10 of 2025) and the agreed version of the Division of Revenue Bill, 2025 (National Assembly Bills No. 10 of 2025) and the hearing of the charges against Guyo.

He said these shall be the only business before the Senate during the special sitting, following which the Senate shall stand adjourned until July 8, 2025, at 2.30 p.m., in accordance with the Senate calendar.
