Seven-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Septic Tank In Muungano, Machakos County


A seven-year-old boy died in a septic tank in an accident in Muungano area, Machakos County.

Police said the boy fell into the incomplete septic tank that had water and was uncovered on Sunday.

He drowned before the body was removed and taken to the mortuary, police said.

The police said they were investigating the incident.

Elsewhere in Mwingi, Kitui County, one Ann Ndinda Kyalo, 25 was found drowned in a dam.

Her shoes and clothes were first found in the banks of the dam which prompted locals to search for the body in the water.

The body was retrieved from the dam by a team of divers from Kitui County government.

The family of the deceased informed the police the deceased had been battling a mental illness and suffered from bipolar disorder.

The body was moved to the mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Drowning has emerged as one of the leading cause of deaths in the country amid heavy rains.

Meanwhile,

14 people were killed in separate road accidents reported in the country on Sunday night and Monday dawn, police said.

The victims included seven riders, three pedestrians, two drivers and two pillion passengers.

Police said the accidents also left 29 people with serious injuries and they included 13 passengers, six pedestrians, three pillion passengers and two drivers.

The accidents are under investigations amid a surge in such incidents that have now claimed more than 1,000 lives in the past four months alone.

Police blame the incidents on reckless overtaking, speeding, and drunk driving remain among the leading causes of road accidents across the country, continuing to claim lives despite sustained public safety campaigns by National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

Mechanical failures from poorly maintained vehicles, including worn tyres and faulty brakes, have also been identified as significant contributors to the growing number of crashes.

In addition to driver negligence, poor road conditions such as potholes, confusing signage, and inadequate lighting make travel increasingly dangerous.
