National Environment Democratic Party (NEDP) leader Mike Sonko officially kicked off the party’s 2027 election campaigns, declaring that the race to form the next government has begun with an aggressive grassroots mobilisation drive across Nairobi and the rest of the country.
Sonko who toured Lang’ata Constituency on Monday promised to hit the ground running as targets to help the party win elective seats in the 2027 General Elections.
He spoke in Mugumoini Ward in the company of Lang’ata parliamentary aspirant Faiza Omar and Mugumoini Ward MCA hopeful Vincent Muirigi, popularly known as “Generali”.
The party is targeting majority of the elective seats in Nairobi.
“Nairobi must be organised. Campaign season is officially on,” Sonko declared as he urged supporters to begin mobilising voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He said the overwhelming support witnessed in Langata demonstrated that Nairobians were ready for a new political direction.
“Our journey has started. We are taking NEDP to every ward, every constituency and every county. Together we shall build a better Nairobi and a stronger Kenya,” Sonko said.
The former Nairobi Governor said the Mugumoini visit marked the beginning of an extensive nationwide campaign that will see the party strengthen its grassroots structures, recruit new members and unveil candidates across the country ahead of the polls.
Sonko reiterated that NEDP is not only targeting elective seats in Nairobi but is also positioning itself as a formidable national political movement.
The party intends to establish strong political networks in at least 35 counties, with particular focus on Nairobi, the Coast region, Eastern, parts of Rift Valley, Western and other strategic regions where the party has been conducting recruitment drives and leadership consultations.
According to Sonko, the party will field candidates for governor, senator, woman representative, Member of Parliament and MCA seats, with the ultimate goal of becoming one of Kenya’s dominant political parties after the 2027 elections.
He urged aspirants to remain united, maintain discipline and focus on issue-based politics, saying NEDP would offer an alternative leadership anchored on service delivery, youth empowerment, women inclusion and economic transformation.
The Nairobi campaign tour is expected to be followed by similar engagements across the Coast region and Ukambani before extending to other counties as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 General Election.
Sonko maintained that NEDP has the structures, leadership and momentum required to compete effectively across the country and become a key player in Kenya’s political landscape.
