Russia keen to establish a Kenya-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group to enhance Parliamentary diplomacy and engagements between the two countries.
Dmitry Maksimychev, Ambassador of the Russian to Kenya said his country is ready to collaborate on matters Parliamentary diplomacy.
While paying a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetang’ula, the two discussed issues regarding exchange programs between law- makers of the two countries aimed at knowledge sharing and learning from each other on politics and leadership.
Wetang’ula acknowledged the kind gestures from Maksimychev and his counterpart in Russia’s indication that Kenya is a progressive country ready to embrace new development- oriented ideas.
The Speaker nostalgically traced his first visit to Russian way back in 1979 when he attended a student conference in Moscow and toured the country. He indicated that he was keen to oversee the establishment of a Parliamentary Friendship Group between the two Parliaments for purposes of parliamentary diplomacy.
He cordially extended an invite to his counterpart of the Federal Assembly of Russia through Maksimychev saying that he will be glad to host him in Kenya for further Parliamentary collaborations.
The Speaker called upon Russia for further bilateral collaborations in tourism, transport and technology among other sectors.
