The main suspect in the tragic death of 22-year-old Amos Sang was apprehended on Tuesday following a nationwide search.
The suspect, whose brutal actions were recorded and widely shared on social media on October 31, was arrested and is currently held at Ruaraka Police Station, while an accomplice is in custody at Longisa Police Station.
Authorities are intensifying their investigation, according to police reports.
The incident began when the suspect reportedly confronted Sang at his home in Teduet village, located in Bomet County, alleging that he had stolen his chicken.
The situation escalated into severe assault, with reports indicating that Sang was hanged with a chain attached to a pulley, leaving him unconscious.
The suspect allegedly returned Sang to his home in that condition.
Tragically, he later succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed at Longisa Referral Hospital, where his body is currently held for a post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, investigators conducted a search of the suspect’s residence and recovered critical evidence, including a pulley and chain believed to have been used in the assault.
Additionally, an empty jerrycan suspected of containing diesel, which was reportedly used during the torture, was also found.
At Sang’s home, clothing soaked in diesel was discovered, further implicating the suspects.
The suspects are expected to face appropriate charges in court.
This incident comes as police continue to investigate the lynching of two mechanics in Ruai, Nairobi, who were accused of siphoning fuel from parked cars and were subsequently killed.
Those currently in custody include the garage owner.
Amid rising cases of mob lynching, police urge the public to always report suspects to authorities rather than take matters into their own hands, warning that individuals involved in mob lynching may face serious charges, including murder.
