Top police officials, including Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Amin Mohamed, have visited Gigiri Police Station to investigate the escape of Collins Jumaisi, the Kware murder suspect, along with twelve other detainees.
Police spokesman Resila Onyango reported that Jumaisi and the twelve Eritrean detainees managed to escape by cutting through a wire mesh fence.
This security breach was discovered early in the morning when officers arrived to serve tea to the detainees.
The report from Gigiri Police Station revealed that the escapees had successfully cut through the wire mesh, which was part of the security infrastructure designed to keep the cells secure.
After breaching the mesh, the detainees scaled the perimeter wall to flee the facility.
The escape of Jumaisi and the twelve detainees has prompted a significant response from the police.
Acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli and DCI Director Amin Mohamed conducted a thorough inspection of the police station to understand how the escape occurred and to assess any lapses in security.
The visit was aimed at ensuring that similar incidents do not happen in the future and to reinforce the security measures at the station.
DCI Director Mohamed Amin confirmed the escape and stated that a renewed manhunt is underway to locate and recapture the fugitives.
“It is unfortunate that this incident occurred,” Amin said.
“We are actively pursuing the matter to ensure that all escapees are apprehended and that appropriate action is taken.”
The authorities are now focusing on tracking down Jumaisi and the other escapees, implementing enhanced security protocols, and reviewing the current procedures to prevent future breaches.
