Police are investigating an incident where an elderly woman was found murdered and her body abandoned on a footpath in South Bukusu village, Bumula, Bungoma County.
Police said they are investigating to establish if the victim was sexually assaulted before her body was abandoned in the swampy area.
The victim was identified as Marceline Nasambu Wambuti, 80 who has been living alone in the area. She had not been seen for two days before her body was found on October 9, 2025.
Police were called to the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
No arrest had been made in connection with the murder, police said.
Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said they are investigating the murder.
Elsewhere in Rigoma, Nyamira County, one Nyakundi Mwamba, 60 was found dead and his body abandoned on a footpath.
The deceased’s eyes had been gouged out by the assailants.
His face was bloody indicating he was hit by blunt objects leading to the death.
The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Detectives in the area are investigating to know the motive and those behind the same.
