In Nyatike Sub County, police have begun investigating the tragic deaths of a three-year-old boy and his father in Magungu, Migori County.
According to Acting Chief Mr. Zacheus Odero, initial findings indicate that the father fatally flogged the child during a heated argument with the boy’s mother on the night of Friday, July 12, 2024.
Realizing the severity of his actions, the father took his own life by hanging himself inside their home.
Before his suicide, the father made a desperate phone call to a relative, asking them to bring his wife back to take the injured child to the hospital.
Unfortunately, the mother, who had fled the violent altercation, did not return out of fear.
The next morning, the mother, who had sought refuge with neighbors, returned to find the house locked from the inside.
The family discovered the tragic scene: the father had committed suicide, and the child had died from his injuries.
Mr. Odero noted that the couple had only been living together for one month prior to this incident.
The bodies have been transported to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary, where they await autopsy and further investigation.
