An investigation is underway by police officers at the Ekerenyo station in Nyamira County following a tragic incident involving a 6-year-old boy’s death and the illness of five family members.
The family, consisting of parents and four children aged 16, 12, 8, and 6, reportedly fell ill after consuming cassava for lunch.
As reported by the authorities, the family members experienced stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhea later that evening after their meal.
They were promptly taken by concerned neighbors to Ekerenyo Hospital for initial treatment.
Subsequently, they were transferred to Nyamira General Hospital for further medical attention.
Tragically, at Nyamira Hospital, the youngest child, identified as Shadrack Mosigisi, passed away due to complications arising from the poisoning.
While the parents and one child were treated and later discharged, another child remained in critical condition.
In the wake of the incident, police officers visited the family’s residence to gather evidence.
Samples of both cooked and uncooked cassava were collected for thorough investigation.
The police report states, “We have initiated a probe into the matter, and samples of the food consumed have been taken for analysis to ascertain the cause of the poisoning.”
