The Trans Nzoia County Government recently initiated a program aimed at providing free milk to Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers across the region.
This program, spearheaded by Governor George Natembeya, is designed to benefit approximately 41,000 children enrolled in 434 ECDE centers throughout the county.
With a budget of Sh70 million, each student will receive a packet of milk twice a week, enhancing their nutritional intake and overall well-being.
During the launch event held at Kitale Township Primary School, Governor Natembeya emphasized the importance of addressing malnutrition among children while ensuring their educational needs are met.
He stated, “This program will help address the challenge of malnutrition among children and ensure their general well-being even as their education needs are met.”
Furthermore, Governor Natembeya urged teachers to uphold the integrity of the program by ensuring that the milk provided is consumed within the school premises.
He emphasized, “Let teachers ensure that no learner takes milk out of the school compound.
This milk is meant for the learners and it should only be taken at school.”
The program, initially piloted in 50 centers at a cost of Sh8 million, has garnered praise for its positive impact on the community.
Tiwani Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Daddy commended the County Government for its dedication to enhancing the ECDE sector in Trans Nzoia.
