Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has projected a prosperous harvest next year, attributing it to the short rains and the government’s efforts to subsidize agricultural inputs.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service held at Amwamba Primary School in Akachiu Ward, Igembe South Constituency, Meru County, Linturi expressed hope that reduced food prices would lead to a significant drop in the cost of living for many Kenyans.
Linturi anticipates that maize meal prices will fall below the Ksh.100 threshold in early 2024, emphasizing that the current cost stands at Sh.130 for a 2kg packet.

The average price of maize flour is currently Sh. 155.
“Kenya is making positive strides. If anyone tells you otherwise, let them know it’s false because I am here telling you the truth.
The recent noise about the economy will subside.
Just the other day, I walked around Nairobi, and I can confirm that the price of maize meal has dropped to 130.
Now, I’m saying it has reached 119,” Linturi stated.
The gathering saw the presence of local Members of Parliament, county assembly members, church leaders, and various other dignitaries.
