Police in Bungoma County launched investigations after a middle-aged woman was found dead inside her rental house in Musikoma, with her husband reported to have disappeared.
The body of Sophy Kimungui was discovered on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Wekelekha Village, Namasanda Sub-location, after one of her friends went to check on her.
The woman was found lying lifeless on a mattress on the floor of the house, police said.
Neighbours told police that Kimungui and her husband, who is a matatu driver, had reportedly been involved in a quarrel during the night.
The couple had lived in the area for about three months, police said.
After the reported altercation, the husband allegedly left the house and disappeared. His whereabouts remained unknown as police began investigations.
Police officers visited and processed the scene.
Officers said there were no visible physical injuries on the woman’s body.
The body was removed and taken to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
Police are pursuing the missing husband as a person of interest while investigations continue to establish what happened inside the house.
Elsewhere, police in Vihiga County have launched investigations after a man died from injuries sustained in an alleged assault in Luanda Sub-County.
Babu Ondiek was allegedly assaulted by a known man on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at around 2pm in Ebumuli-Ebumbai Village, Kayila Sub-location, Maseno Location.
Ondiek was rushed to ACK Maseno Mission Hospital for treatment before he was referred to Mbale Referral Hospital for a CT scan. However, he was taken back home.
He later succumbed to his injuries at around 1am on Thursday.
Police officers visited and processed the scene.
The deceased had visible injuries on his head and hands.
The motive for the alleged assault had not been established, according to police.
The suspect was arrested and is being held as investigations continue.
Ondiek’s body was moved to Maseno Coptic Morgue, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.
