Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji Wednesday said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had sent him a report on the probe into former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i alleged raid on his home.

The DPP said he will review the file and advise on the appropriate action to be made in due course.

“The duplicate file herein will be reviewed, and a decision thereto, shall be made in due course, based on the evidence, facts, the law, and the Decision to Charge Guidelines, 2019,” said Mr. Haji.

Matiang’i is under probe by the DCI following the reported police raid on his Karen home in Nairobi on February 8, 2023. The DCI claims the former CS published false information regarding the alleged police raid in his home.

Matiangi never talked to any government official about the incident.

The former powerful CS was on Tuesday released after spending the day at the Kiambu road-based DCI headquarters with his lawyers.

Police maintain they never raided his home at the time and accuse him of spreading false information meant to ‘spread tension in the country.

Matiangi’s release follows a day of high drama at the DCI headquarters which began with him temporarily barred from accessing its offices despite the summons until ‘all his lawyers are registered’.

The DCI has separately written to the Head of Public Service requesting information on his wealth declaration forms since he joined Cabinet in 2013.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is also said to be investigating him.

Matiang’i served as a minister in three different portfolios, including Education, ICT, and Interior dockets, between 2013 and 2022 under former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
