Police are looking for a gang that attacked and robbed a police officer of his gun as he tried to stop them from siphoning fuel at a construction site in Mombasa.
The corporal of police and two colleagues had been alerted that some people were siphoning fuel at the Meter Gauge Railways in Mombasa construction site.
The officers rushed to the scene on June 17 night and on arrival the corporal of police was attacked and the gang.
He was robbed of his Jericho pistol prompting a struggle that led to the dismembering of the weapon magazine with 15 bullets.
The attackers vanished into the darkness with the weapon without its magazine amid a police hunt.
The magazine was recovered with a mobile phone suspected to belong to the suspects, police said.
The officer was rescued and rushed to Coast general hospital for treatment in stable condition.
Police say the hunt on the gang is ongoing.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on a farm in Muranga.
The decomposed body was discovered by a farmer who was busy at his farm on Saturday afternoon.
Police said the deceased man was aged about 65 and they are yet to identify him.
The body’s left palm was missing and a carton containing assorted clothes, which had no blood stains was found there.
It is suspected that the deceased might have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene, police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
