A man from Nairobi named Erick Ochieng has been accused of physically and verbally hurting a police officer at the Drive Inn Police Post in Roysambu.
He’s now facing charges of assault and offensive behavior.
This incident happened on October 8, 2023, when Ochieng went to the police post to ask about a report he had filed earlier.
He wanted a quick resolution to his case.
However, the officer in charge, Corporal Peter Karanja, told him that they hadn’t finished their investigation, so they couldn’t arrest the person involved just yet.
Ochieng got very upset by what Corporal Karanja said.
He made a scene at the police post, as reported by the Nation newspaper.
Corporal Karanja tried to calm things down by walking away from Ochieng, but Ochieng wouldn’t let him leave and ended up hurting him with a door.
After this happened, other police officers at the scene put Ochieng in custody, as people nearby raised an alarm.
Corporal Karanja had to go to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Ochieng appeared in front of Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi at the Makadara Law Court on Thursday.
He said he was not guilty of the charges and was allowed to leave after paying Ksh.40,000 as bail.
The case will be talked about again on November 28, and the trial will start on March 13, 2024.
