Parliament Begins Review Of Ministerial Nominees On August 1


The review of ministerial nominees commenced in Parliament on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

Kithure Kindiki, the nominee for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was the first to be examined by the committee.

He arrived at the Parliament Buildings just before 2:00 AM, but the review was delayed and started at 2:30 AM.

Following Kindiki, Deborah Mulongo Barasa, the nominee for the Ministry of Health, was scrutinized by the National Assembly’s Nomination Committee.

Alice Wahome, nominated for the Ministry of Lands, was reviewed around 6:00 PM, followed by Migos Ogamba for the Ministry of Education at 9:00 PM.

Soipan Tuya, nominated for the Ministry of Defence, concluded the day’s hearings around 5:00 PM.

During their appearances, all nominees were required to declare their current net worth. Here are the declared figures:

  • Kithure Kindiki (Internal Security): Sh544 million, up from Sh694 million in October 2022.
  • Alice Wahome (Lands, Public Works): Sh327 million, up from Sh218 million in October 2022.
  • Soipan Tuya (Defence): Sh243.4 million, up from Sh156 million in October 2022.
  • Deborah Barasa (Health): Sh455.8 million.
  • Julius Ogamba (Education): Sh790 million.

The review process, scheduled to span four days, will continue with at least five nominees assessed each day from Thursday, August 1, 2024, to Sunday, August 4, 2024.

On August 2, the committee will review Andrew Mwihia (Agriculture) at 2:00 AM, Aden Duale (Environment) at 4:00 AM,

Eric Muuga (Water), Davis Chirchir (Transport), and Margaret Ndung’u (ICT).

On August 3, John Mbadi (Treasury), Salim Mvurya (Business), Rebecca Miano (Tourism) at 6:00 PM,

Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) at 9:00 PM, and Kipchumba Murkomen (Sports) will appear before the committee.

On August 4, Hassan Joho (Mines), Alfred Mutua (Labour), Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives), Justin Muturi (Public Service), and Stella Lang’at (Gender) will be interviewed.
