KCSE 2025 Results: How Candidates Performed

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has officially released the results of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.

Speaking on Friday, January 9, at AIC Chebisaas High School in Uasin Gishu County, Ogamba revealed that 1,932 candidates achieved the top mean grade of A (Plain) in the 2025 KCSE. This marked an increase from the 1,693 students who attained the same grade in 2024.

Ogamba said the A (Plain) candidates represented 0.19 per cent of all those who sat the exam, describing the figure as an improvement on the previous year’s outcome.

A total of 270,715 candidates earned the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above. According to the Education CS, this accounted for 27.81 per cent of the entire 2025 cohort, up from 246,391 candidates, or 25.53 per cent, recorded in 2024.

Beyond that, 507,131 learners posted a mean grade of C− and above, making up 50.92 per cent of all candidates. Meanwhile, 634,082 students scored D+ and above, compared with 605,774 the previous year.

National schools once again led the way in producing top performers. They accounted for 1,526 of the A (Plain) grades, followed by extra-county schools with 197 and private schools with 185. Sub-county schools, however, outperformed county schools in the number of candidates attaining C+ and above, contributing 72,699 of those who met the university entry threshold.

The 2025 KCSE examinations were conducted nationwide between October 21 and November 21, 2025, across 10,755 centres under the supervision of the Ministry of Education.
