Tanzanian Security Guard Killed In Violent Night Raid As Thieves Loot Migori Hotel

Police in Migori County launched investigations and a manhunt for suspects who brutally murdered a security guard before making away with electronics and cash worth more than Sh540,000 during a night-time robbery at a hotel in Migori town.

The incident happened on Monday at the New Ranch Hotel and Restaurant located in Suna Central, Suna East Sub-County.

According to police, the crime was discovered by a cleaner who reported to work.

As she attempted to enter the premises, she noticed that the rear entrance door was open, raising suspicion that something was wrong.

She proceeded to the area where the night watchman usually stayed and found him lying in a pool of blood, with his hands, legs and neck tightly bound.

Police rushed to the scene and established that the victim was Jackson Kingi, a 37-year-old Tanzanian national employed as the hotel’s security guard.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers gained entry through the rear side of the compound after jumping over the perimeter wall.

They allegedly dismantled the hotel’s CCTV system before attacking the guard.

Police said the assailants inflicted multiple deep cut wounds on the victim, tied his hands, legs and neck, and stuffed a piece of cloth into his mouth, apparently suffocating him.

After overpowering the guard, the suspects broke the padlock on the rear door and gained access to the bar area, where they stole several items, including a Pioneer mixer machine valued at Sh200,000, an Apple laptop worth Sh85,000, cash amounting to Sh10,500, two Vitron television sets, a Skyworth television and an Amtech television.

The total value of the stolen property is estimated at approximately Sh540,000.

Investigators established that the premises had been closed at around midnight by an attendant who left the security guard on duty at the rear section of the restaurant.

Crime scene investigators documented and photographed the scene before the body was moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said a security operation has been launched in the area as detectives pursue leads aimed at identifying and arresting those behind the robbery and murder.
