Suspect Shot And Wounded In Botched Robbery In Embakasi, Nairobi

Police in Embakasi, Nairobi, are investigating a robbery with violence incident in which a suspected robber was reportedly shot and injured during a confrontation with officers.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday night at around 10.05pm near the Railway Club in Riara area.

Security guards alerted a police patrol team that a group of about five men was robbing members of the public within the area.

Police officers responded immediately and followed a narrow path leading towards a maize plantation

Police said the officers encountered five men armed with machetes emerging from the maize farm.

The suspects were ordered to stop, but one of them allegedly charged towards the officers while brandishing a panga.

One of the officers then fired two shots towards the suspect, forcing him to drop the weapon before fleeing into the maize plantation while screaming.

The other suspects also escaped into the farm after hearing the gunshots.

Police believe the suspect may have sustained gunshot injuries based on the screams heard as he fled the scene.

The scene was later visited by the duty officer, and the panga abandoned by the suspect was recovered and kept at the station as an exhibit.

During the operation, a robbery victim reported to the station that he had been attacked by the gang while walking home from work in the same area.

The victim told police he was robbed of a Vivo A03 mobile phone valued at Sh32,000 and Sh100 in cash. He also sustained head injuries after being struck with a rungu during the robbery.

Investigations and efforts to trace the suspects are ongoing.
