All is set for the Nairobi County Cross Country championships and trials for the World Veterans Championships on Saturday, January 14.

The Nairobi County cross meeting will be held at the Kenya Prisons Services training grounds in Nairobi West and will feature senior and junior races for men and women, Athletics Kenya Nairobi County first vice chairperson Gideon Nyangechi confirmed yesterday.

The men’s event will feature 10km for seniors and 8 kilometers for juniors drawn from the nine athletics competition districts in the city.

The women’s races are 8km and 6km for seniors and juniors.

The meeting will start at 8:00 am to select the city team for the national championships at the Prisons Staff Training College, Ruiru next Saturday.

Nyangechi added that there will be a 2km race for men and women to select the mixed relay team of which the first three to cross the line will be automatic qualifiers in the Nairobi team.

Meanwhile, Kenya will compete in the first-ever World Masters indoor championships in Torun, Poland March 26 to April 1 this year.

“Kenya has been given a quota of 16 athletes aged 40 and above, and I wish to thank Athletics Kenya, the government, Betika, HFC and Coca-Cola for bringing our old but active athletes from retirement,” said Athletics Kenya Veterans Secretary Rose Tata Muya, recently named president of Masters Association of East Africa President.

The Masters meeting at Nyayo National Stadium will start at 7:00 am.
