The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance is scheduled to convene a parliamentary group meeting today, Wednesday, October 29, 2023, at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (SKM) command center.
The meeting, led by coalition head Raila Odinga, aims to thoroughly examine the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
Released by a 10-member delegation team on the past Saturday, the report has sparked varied reactions among Kenyans, leading to a division between the opposition and the government.
NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua and Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa, both part of the dialogue team, have expressed disagreement with the recommendations outlined in the report.
They argue that the report falls short of addressing critical issues affecting Kenyans, notably the soaring cost of living.
The NADCO report indicates the difficulty in achieving a consensus on the controversial Housing Levy and the reduction of VAT on fuel from 16% to 8%.
These proposed levies have drawn severe criticism against the government.
Approval of these proposals is currently pending before the National Assembly, with subsequent assent required from President William Ruto, should the green light be given.
The meeting seeks to navigate the complexities surrounding these contentious issues and pave the way for potential resolutions.
