A young girl in her first year of high school lost her life tragically in Migori County when she drowned while attempting to cross River Nyabsongo.
The student, enrolled at Mobachi Secondary School in Suna West, met her untimely demise while navigating a makeshift bridge over the river.
According to Area Assistant Chief Samwel Otieno, the girl slipped off the bridge and was swept away by the strong currents of River Nyabsongo.

Authorities suspect that she may have experienced an epileptic seizure while crossing the wooden structure.
Another student who was crossing the bridge at the same time discovered the girl’s body and raised an alarm.
Local residents rushed to the scene and retrieved the girl’s body from the river.
Her remains were then transported to the mortuary at Migori Level Four Hospital.
