On Tuesday, Liverpool FC expressed their deep sorrow at his passing, stating, “Liverpool FC is deeply saddened by the passing of former player Max Thompson. Thompson, once the Reds’ youngest ever player, has sadly passed away at the age of 66.”

Liverpool FC acknowledged Thompson’s significant contribution, stating, “That club record would stand until May 2010 when Jack Robinson appeared as a 16-year-old in a Premier League fixture with Hull City.”
Following his tenure at Liverpool, Thompson went on to play for Blackpool, Swansea City, and Bournemouth.
Additionally, he had several spells in American soccer, representing teams such as the Dallas Tornado, Seattle Sounders, and Baltimore Blast.
After retiring from playing, Thompson transitioned into a career as a physiotherapist, serving both Liverpool and Southport in that capacity.

His contributions on and off the field will be remembered fondly.
