Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has made a strong commitment to continue the fight against the extremist group al-Shabaab from Somalia.
He emphasized this during a visit to Wajir County while marking the establishment of Kotulo Sub-County in Tarbaj.
Kindiki referred to al-Shabaab as Kenya’s biggest threat, saying, “That is our biggest enemy right now.
They have caused havoc in their country and are bringing that into Kenya.
We are determined to be the government that restores peace in the North Eastern region.”
He further stated, “We have declared war on al-Shabaab. They might think they will outsmart us but we will crush them like we did cattle rustlers.”
Professor Kindiki urged all citizens to cooperate with the security forces and prevent terror groups from influencing young people into violent actions.
“Terrorism remains a key national security concern and the Government will triumph over terror.
Parents must remain vigilant and counsel their children to resist radicalization or recruitment into terror groups,” the CS said.
The Interior CS assured that the government would equip security officers with modern tools to protect them from armed criminals and to ensure the safety of Kenyan citizens and their belongings.
Kindiki praised the dedication of security officers from various agencies who have been working tirelessly to combat insecurity in the North Eastern Region.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by some officers who have lost their lives or been injured while defending the country.
He also emphasized the government’s commitment to justice, saying, “Some of our officers have even lost their lives and others injured by armed criminals.
No prize is enough to honor our officers for their diligence.
They are patriotic men and women who love their country.
I pay tribute to all these officers who work in the difficult terrain of North Eastern”
During his visit, Kindiki oversaw the inauguration of the Kotulo Sub-County headquarters and the appointment of the first Deputy County Commissioner, Farah Hassan Mohamed.
The Sub-County was established in March 2022 and covers an area of about 6,594 square kilometers.
It comprises 2 Divisions, 12 Locations, and 19 Sub-Locations, with a population of 28,167 people according to the 2019 National Housing and Population Census.
The Interior CS was joined by Tarbaj MP Hussein Abdi Barre, local government officials, and community and religious leaders during his visit to Wajir County.
